bio
Nim (Alex Berman) is a musician and sound/technology artist based in Sweden. He has worked with improvised music, innovative musical interfaces, sound installation, artificial intelligence and video experiments. His music incorporates found sounds, selfmade instruments, beats, random mechanisms and processing of live input sources.
His live acts tend to be concise, intense and fragile. Randomness is built into his sonic machinery in an effort to stimulate awareness and achieve unanticipated results. Often, personal material (sounds and/or imagery) is used, forming a narrative centered around the perception and reinterpretation of everyday experience.
Previously, Alex Berman has compared the sonic properties of organic versus genetically modified potatoes, conducted a musical dialogue with a civil emergency system, remixed street sounds live and studied the clicking patterns of his noisy radiator. In Trondheim, Norway, he has exhibited Living Wall — a sound installation which explores the idea of a room with a self-organized sonic memory.
Nim has been released on Bivouac (NY), Frozen Elephants (Berlin) and Sudd (Sweden) as well as his own label Timebend.
Alex Berman holds a masters in Art & Technology from Chalmers Technical University, Gothenburg, Sweden.
